Restraints vs. PASDs
What is a Restraint?
A physical restraint is defined as any manual method, or any physical or mechanical device, material, or equipment, that does, or has the potential to restrict the resident’s freedom of movement or normal access to his or her body.
What is a PASD?
A Personal Assistance Service Device (PASD) is a device used to assist a person with a routine activity of daily living. A PASD may limit or inhibit movement and may restrain a resident but is not considered a restraint if the intent for application of the device is to provide assistance with activities of daily living.
